On 22 April 2020, Li posted a video on Youtube, Twitter, and Weibo, that he went to Wuhan in February, after another journalist, Chen Qiushi, went missing. In his first video from Wuhan he explained why we was there. On February 26, he was taken taken to a police station, where he had fingerprints and blood samples taken, before being taken to an “interrogation room”.
He was told he was “suspected of disturbing public order”, but was told there would be no penalty. He was put in the quarantined due to Corona Virus suspected. Then driven to a quarantine center in his home town for another two weeks, before going to stay with his family. After finishing the quarantine, he suddenly reappears after two months.
According to The Guardian, Li’s neutral tone in the video was very different from his previous videos. Activist Ou Biaofeng stated the authorities may have pressured Li to make the brief statement.
