Hollywood stars Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid and others have written an open letter to the US President Joe Biden asking for a ceasefire as the crisis continues in Gaza. From supermodel Bella Hadid to Gigi Hadid and Jennifer Lopez to Zayn Mallick, they have asked Biden for a ceasefire in Gaza. This celebrity initiative is supported by Oxfam America and ActionAid USA.
The open letter reads, “Dear President Biden, we are artists and advocates who have come together. But the most important thing is the destruction of life in Israel and Palestine as a human eyewitness of the devastating event.
“As President of the United States, we call on you and the US Congress for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire before another life is lost in Gaza and Israel.” More than five thousand people have been killed in the last week and a half. Any sane person knows this number is devastating. We believe that all life is sacred, regardless of creed or race, and we condemn the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians.
Along with Selena, Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid, this list of artists includes Anushka Shankar, Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum, Drake, Dua Lipa, Joaquin Phoenix, Joe Alwyn, Kristen Stewart, Michael Moore and Sarah Jones.
Selena showed her support for Gaza after announcing she was taking a break from social media. She wrote, “I am taking a break and deleting my Instagram. reached me I do not support what is happening. Selena is being criticized after responding to the conflict between Palestine and Israel. His response to this is, ‘Because my heart is broken by seeing the terror, hatred, violence and terror happening in the world.’
“Torturing people, killing them or any act of hatred towards any group is terrible,” says Selena. All people need to be protected, especially children. It is necessary to stop violence for good.
