Amidst speculations about the film’s budget, previous reports hinted at a hefty Rs 150 crore production cost, accompanied by Akshay Kumar’s substantial fees. However, the producer of OMG 2 has now clarified the situation in a surprising revelation.
In a recent interview with an online entertainment news portal, Ajit Andhare, the COO of Viacom18, dismissed the exaggerated reports surrounding the movie’s budget. He disclosed that Akshay Kumar opted not to take any remuneration for his role in the film, demonstrating not only his acting prowess but also his involvement as a producer.
“Akshay didn’t charge a single rupee as a fee,” Andhare confirmed to Pinkvilla. He emphasized the collaborative history between Akshay and himself, citing their past collaborations in films like OMG, Special 26, and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Andhare stressed that without Akshay Kumar’s participation, undertaking such a significant risk would have been implausible. He underlined that Akshay not only engaged creatively but also invested financially in the project.
Contrary to varying figures that circulated across media platforms, the actual budget of OMG 2 is reported to be slightly under Rs 50 crores, according to an insider source. This number is a far cry from the aforementioned speculations ranging from Rs 100 crores to Rs 150 crores. The predecessor film, OMG, was created on a budget of Rs 25 crores.
The past week has proven remarkable for Indian cinema, with both Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, and OMG 2 performing exceptionally well at the box office.
