Mumbai Police have arrested a man accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence. The accused was apprehended in Thane three days after the attack, as reported by news agency ANI, citing police officials.
Initially identifying himself as Bijoy Das, the suspect later revealed his name to be Mohammed Sajjad. Authorities are currently verifying his identity. A Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) involved in the operation stated that Das was found hiding beneath dried grass and leaves deep inside a bushy area. “The accused previously worked in the area, making him familiar with the location and confident it was a safe hideout,” a senior officer explained. Following his arrest, the suspect was transported to Mumbai for further investigation.
CCTV footage released less than 24 hours after the attack captured the assailant fleeing down the staircase of the actor’s apartment building. The attacker, who stabbed Khan multiple times in his 12th-floor apartment, was seen descending to the sixth floor.
In a related development, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) detained another suspect, Aakash Kailash Kannojia, 31, at Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh. Kannojia, who was traveling on the Jnaneshwari Express from Mumbai LTT to Kolkata Shalimar, had been identified from CCTV footage showing him descending a staircase in Khan’s building and purchasing earphones from an electronics store.
The attack on Saif Ali Khan, 54, occurred early Thursday morning during an attempted robbery at his Bandra residence. The actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a fragment of a broken knife lodged near his spinal cord. Doctors have since declared Khan out of danger, confirming he will soon be discharged.
