Prabhas-starrer becomes third biggest opener of all time surpassing KGF 2, earns Rs 180 cr

Sci-fi epic “Kalki 2898 AD” has shattered opening day records, becoming the biggest Bollywood opener of 2024. Industry tracker Sacnilk reports the film raked in a whopping Rs 95 crore nett in India alone.

The star-studded cast, featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, clearly drew audiences in. The Telugu version performed particularly well, contributing Rs 64.5 crore to the domestic total. Hindi followed with Rs 24 crore, while Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada contributed the remaining amount.

“Kalki 2898 AD” surpasses last year’s top opener, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan,” by a significant Rs 20 crore. Jawan managed Rs 75 crore on its opening day and went on to become a massive hit.

This sci-fi spectacle also claims the third spot for all-time biggest Indian openers, beating out Yash’s “KGF Chapter 2” (Rs 159 crore). The top two positions remain with S.S. Rajamouli’s blockbusters “RRR” (Rs 223 crore) and “Baahubali 2” (Rs 217 crore).

However, it’s worth noting that while “Kalki 2898 AD” boasts a higher gross collection than “KGF Chapter 2,” the latter still holds the record for nett collections with Rs 116 crore.With such a powerful opening, “Kalki 2898 AD” is poised for a dominant weekend. Early predictions suggested a potential Rs 500 crore haul in its first three days. Whether the film maintains this momentum remains to be seen.Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film boasts a star-studded cast beyond the leads. Fans were treated to cameos by Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Deverakonda, and even S.S. Rajamouli himself.
