Actress-turned-politician Jayaprada has been sentenced to 6 months in jail by a Chennai court. The case is related to his own theater in Royapettah, where the employees filed a petition against him. The court has also fined Jayaprada Rs 5,000 in this regard. According to a report, Jay’s theater was visited by his business partners Ram Kumar and Raja Babu. All the employees went to court after the theater failed to provide ESI (Employees State Insurance Corporation) to its employees.
However, Jayaprada appealed to the court to dismiss the case and promised to pay the full amount to her employees. But the lawyer of Labor Government Insurance Institute objected to his appeal. In this case, Jayaprada and three other people associated with this theater have been sentenced to 6 months in jail. Everyone has also been asked to pay a fine of 5,000. However, till now, Jayaprada has not been arrested in this case.
Jaya was an iconic star of Bollywood and Telugu cinema in the 70s and 80s. In the industry, she was compared to female superstars like Sridevi. Both were competitors of each other. In Bollywood, Jaya gave many hits like Tohfa, Sharabhi, Akhri Rasta, Aaj Ka Arjun and Thanedar. She left films in 1994 and joined politics.
Jaya Prada has represented Samajwadi Party twice in Lok Sabha from Rampur. She was elected MP from Rampur seat in 2004 and 2009. After this she contested again from Rampur seat in 2014 and 2019 but was defeated both times.
